Sorry I took so long to reply, Art, but U R really spot on with your description! That was the time I was a child, then a teenager, and there were umpteen spiritual movements around, from the moonies to hare krishna to "transcendental meditation" to name a few of the big'n's. No one who wasn't around then can know how tempting they were, and to this day, many who joined such movements or took up their beliefs, and later became disillusioned, will not come to CHRIST. Satan had many triumphs then, both with those who embraced those movements, and with those who left them, disillusioned with worship in general.

The Beatles were a huge influence in the popularity of these movements, as were other performers of "psychedelic rock", with such songs as Strawberry Fields Forever, Sittin' With The Guru, Lucy In The Sky(With Glasses), Purple Haze, Magic Carpet Ride, , and, of course, John Lennon's immensely popular My Sweet Lord. Today, there's a genre of music called "pagan rock", represented by such groups as Inkkubus Sukkubus. Their stuff is openly pagan, while earlier performers such as Led Zeppelin, and later, Black Sabbath(with Ozzy Osbourne) just hinted at paganism.

But music is just ONE of Satan's tools in this drug/paganism movement. There are umpteen "self-help" gangs out there now. While some are legitimate, most tend to steer people AWAY FROM GOD, teaching one to rely upon his own inner spirituality. They lead people away from God by omission of any mention of Him in their teachings, workshops, and seminars. Satan has tools that appeal to every cultural group on earth, and it's upta us to KNOW THE SCRIPTURES, believe and teach them LITERALLY, to tell the Gospel of Jesus to people at every opportunity, and avoid going down the dead-end bunny trails of the old spirituality groups, as well as any new ones that will inevitably spring up.

Even such groups as PETA are part of Satan's tool kit. A Christian who owns animals will take care of them properly as part of Christian living, but won't hesitate to eat meat or otherwise exploit animals for human benefit, remembering that GOD gave man dominion over all animals.

Yes, the emergent church is a large part of te 'new spirituality' and 'new age' movements that have largely replaced the psychedelic culture of fifty years ago. Same false worship, with a different wrapping.
