Yes,absolutely, Christians should stay out of politics. We are to be witnesses for the saviour, by preaching the gospel to every creature. The Lord will take care of the powers that be and we are to be subject unto them according to Rom 13.
There is no verse in the new testament that encourages the believer to get involved with the cares of this world and the corrupt government. However, there are many verses that call us to preach the gospel of the cross and to win souls for Christ.  That is the believers calling.
That is my understanding of the Scriptures as well.  We are never commanded to be involved in the political mechanations, because it is the LORD that sets up leaders and brings them down.  And regardless of what the politicians claim they believe, HE uses them to fulfill HIS ULTIMATE WILL.  Anyone who reads the Old Testament will see that God uses HIS enemies to judge HIS people when they are in error, and then HE judges HIS enemies.

Pr 16:25 (KJV) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

And remember we get the leaders we deserve.  Can someone please show from the Scriptures where any group whether JEWISH or Gentile ever voted who would lead them?

Mr 9:38 (KJV) And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
